Events that have led up to the Quasquicentennial, well enjoyed by all:
- Saturday afternoon, March 28, 1998: Women of the Prairie Meet Rosie the Riveter: 125 Years of Iowa Fashions*
Have you ever wondered what it was like to wear bustles or corsets? Do you sometimes think you were born in the wrong era? Join Valerie Van Kooten as you learn what like was like for Iowa women via the fashions they wore. This fashion show and program will be held at the North Tama school with a luncheon prepared by the American Home Club.
- April 22, 1998, North Tama ICN Room: Yup...Nope...and Why Midwesterners Don't Say Much*
This tongue-in-cheek presentation explores the tendency of Midwesterners to express themselves in as few words as possible. Barbara Lounsberry's humorous examples from the past to present help define this topic. Ms. Lounsberry is a native Iowan who believes that Iowa culture, like its soil, is incredibly rich. Get a fresh perspective on how we talk and laugh a little at ourselves!
- Sunday afternoon, June 7, 1998: "Grass Between the Rails"*
and Ice Cream Social
Join us for a good old-fashioned family afternoon in Taylor Park. The Traer Jaycees will be serving up ice cream while we enjoy songs and stories of the railroad in Iowa. Denny Rehder grew up near Gladbrook and combines his love of railroad history with his musical talents to entertain his audiences. All ages will enjoy this relaxed and entertaining event.
- Sunday afternoon, June 28, 1998: Reading and Writing the Land: Farm Poetry*
The Traer museum will host this humorous program about how culture and agri-culture cross-pollinate in the fertile Iowa soil. The Iowa farm landscape inspires author Michael Carey as he speaks and reads of his insights since moving to a farm near Farragut, Iowa. An active farmer of 800 acres of land, Carey believes that religion, art, and history sustain and inspire a love for the land. Come to the Traer Museum and take a new look at the Iowa farmland we hold so dear!
- August 12-16, 1998: Quasqui Days in Traer
We will kick off the official five-day event in Taylor Park. Bring your lawn chair and be ready to hear a little community history plus some musical numbers from our high school jazz band. Don't Miss It!
