About the Wall...
- Jan Scruggs had the idea of creating a national monument; Maya Lin designed it. The Memorial was dedicated November 13, 1982.
- There are 58,209 names listed on the Wall, with 263 of those added after the dedication for various reasons.
- The names are arranged in chronological order, from 1959 to 1975.
- Eight women and sixteen chaplains are on the Wall.
- There are 825 Iowa servicemen on the Wall. John Kopriva of Traer is on panel 22W, line 112.
- The real Memorial in Washington is 493.5 feet long and 10.2 feet high at its vertex. This Traveling Wall is 240 feet long and 8 feet high.
