WEST End: Stop sign/T intersection, US 65, Lucas County

Highway 306 wins (won) the award for least signs on any highway, made possible by its complete absence from two directions. NO signage on northbound 65 or westbound 306 existed. That makes a total of THREE signs on the entire route, two of them on US 65. As you can see in this picture, there is neither an "End 306" nor an "East 306" in the other direction.

Six miles south of here, Humeston Iowa (pop. 543) lists Des Moines at the bottom of its northbound leaving-town LGS, and Princeton MO at the bottom of its southbound leaving-town LGS. The Missouri city on US 136 begins showing up after leaving Indianola because 65 passes through no more county seats between there and the state line!

Behind the camera is "Jct 306"; ahead is the sign below - 2/3 of the entire collection of 306 shields.

At left is the 65 with double arrow seen at far left in the second-from-top picture.

EAST End: Center St., Derby, Lucas County
The "widescreen" nature of this picture helps illustrate what Jason Hancock wrote: "Derby has clearly seen better days, as the only active business in what would be its business district is the post office." Soon after this point, County Road H50 turns north and then east again, but as of June 2003 this was not signed. Perhaps now that 306 is part of H50 it is, but then again, 306 wasn't even signed in all four directions...

Front and Center - nice name for a highway's end intersection. With difficulty, you can see the west end of the route from here. That is, if you know you're on a route, because the sign count in this direction was precisely zero.

The speed limit on 306 never gets above 50. The H50 shield is extra-pointy, as are all of Lucas County's county shields for some reason.
