The difference between the 150-218 intersection and the 58-63 intersection is that here, there is an option to turn onto the northbound US highway.

In its non-Avenue-of-the-Saints segment between Cedar Rapids and Waterloo, 218 only crosses the city limits of two other incorporated towns (Vinton and La Porte City).

Before I-380, when IA 101 was the road connecting Independence to Vinton, the intersection with 218 was in downtown, probably C Avenue and Fourth Street. This changed in 1961-62, when a 218 bypass was built.

The gantries were removed in 2016 and replaced with an overhead arm and some side-mounted signs. Notice also that some islands were removed.

In 2005, the number of fast-food burger restaurants in Benton County doubled - Vinton got a McDonald's in addition to its Hardee's. But that situation only lasted a little over a year, as the Hardee's closed in October 2006. (Hardee's executives and industry watchers, take note.)

Before the construction of I-380, 150 was a second major road to Cedar Rapids from points north. Instead of heading to Vinton, it followed the route of what for nearly 20 years afterward was IA 920 and W6E, the latter of which closely parallels I-380. After completion of the interstate, 150 was rerouted along IA 101 to Vinton. For additional pictures of these, click the links.
