(November 23, 1938-November 14, 1980)
WEST End: Macedonia, Pottawattamie County
Facing northeast (8/23/19)
This is a view looking into downtown by what had been the railroad grade. An overpass was built at the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy but by now, the area's been somewhat filled in. According to the route log, the end was set at Dye Street in 1960 (a block left/west of the camera) in 1960 but at the overpass in 1971.
This mural is painted on the side of a building at the corner of Main and Woodmancy streets. Around the corner, the front is painted around the garage doors to look like an old-time Mobil gas station, which judging by the still-extant gas price pole and the diagonal nature of the building's position must have been what was here before. EAST End: Stop sign, US 59, Pottawattamie County
Facing east on 362 (6/12/06)
Facing south on 59 (6/12/06)
Facing north on 59 (6/12/06)
Last seen: 1981
The two spurs seen here, IA 244 and 362, would not be officially dropped until the second half of 1980, and the 1981 state map has BOTH the original and second versions marked. In the case of 362, the route technically wasn't turned over before the road to DeSoto Wildlife Preserve was designated.
