First scene in last week’s episode of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”:
“What’s Burning Man?”
“Are you sure you’re not from Iowa, because you just sounded like it.”
Later it turns out the person who spoke the second line was “an art teacher from Iowa.” I’m not sure if that makes it better or worse.
Iowa has a history of being name-dropped in superhero/spy TV shows, from “Kim Possible” a decade ago to “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” a half-century ago, both of which put secret bases in the state. In that light, “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” needs to step up its game.
