There have been enough cases of small high schools forfeiting football games this year due to lack of players after injuries that it’s worth documenting:
- Danville forfeited at least half its season (five games)
- Mormon Trail (Garden Grove) forfeited at least three and a half games — Montezuma, Lenox, Wayne, and Bedford in a game that was partially played before a lightning delay.
- Griswold forfeited to Earlham and Council Bluffs St. Albert
- Postville forfeited to North Linn
- And then, two not-small schools: Waterloo Columbus forfeited against North Fayette Valley, which is undefeated, and Waterloo East forfeited against Cedar Falls.
- That’s all after CAL didn’t even try to have a team and set up an agreement with Clarion-Goldfield-Dows. CAL is down to about 20 students per grade level.
Playoffs start Friday, back on the old schedule, after the reduction of qualifying teams.
