July 2, 2024: Hills Elementary is just off US 218 … but not for long.
Hills Elementary School, which was closed at the end of the 2023-24 school year, will be demolished after just short of 60 years in existence.
The Iowa City school district and the city came to mutual agreement about it this week. Stories: Gazette, KCRG, KWWL. The mayor said the building does not meet the city’s needs.
No word about the very nice playground beside the school, nor the in-memoriam planters in the photo above.
